Abstract
Villa Alciri is situated on the River Beni in Bolivia and is liable to flooding. The community currently live in temporary housing. Practical Action has supplied them with solar panels - they now have access to the radio. Jorge is a agricultural labourer. He separates stones from the sandy soil which is then used to build housing. He cannot work quickly enough in daylight and so Practical Action has provided solar lighting so that Jorge can continue his work safely at night. Practical Action have also provided Jorge with better tools and equipment such as secateurs, rather than a machete, and taught him better agricultural techniques so that he can prune his plants rather than chop off whole sections.
