Abstract
The village of Altamarani on the River Beni, Bolivia is only accessible by boat. Practical Action trained a local (pictured in blue shirt) to be a specialist on crops and flood resilient farming. He has passed on his specialist knowledge to the rest of his community. This means that if the river bank bursts, the community's farming does not suffer disastrously. A biodigester runs the new toilets in the village installed by Practical Action. The biodigester has a valve to turn off and close the tank which prevents sewage overflowing in the case of heavy rain and floods.
