Abstract
Project aims to help communities protect their environment while at the same time improving livelihoods. There are more than 300,000 hectares of protected cloud forests where 150,000 families live. This project builds on the experience of the Chinchipe work, to extend and adapt the participatory management of forestry resources in cloud forests, in three different contexts of Bolivia and Peru. Activities include measures to promote sustainable activities, preserve protected areas and control the illegal trafficking of forestry resources, increased income for those living in the cloud forests, compatible with the conservation of cloud forests. The project intends to achieve its purpose through the following four results: 1. Cloud forest inhabitants improve their technical capacity to preserve their forests and make their production sustainable. 2. Authorities increase their support of the conservation and sustainable production initiatives of cloud forest inhabitants. 3. Local research institutions and forest inhabitants develop forestry and agro-forestry technologies for climate change adaptation and mitigation in cloud forests. 4. Producers, authorities, native leaders and technicians involved in cloud forests are kept informed, are aware of and replicate the lessons gained from the experience.
