This article tells a moving story of an encounter with a couple Karntaka in South India. The woman suffers mentally and unable to engage in household tasks. However her husband continues help against the advice of the community who would like to see divorce. The author highlights the central role of the equipment for cooking and fire are at the heart of the home where people restore, quench their thirst and feel safe.
