Abstract

When we arrived in Chipendeke the electricity was not working. Mr Senga Senga was not at home as he was busy fixing the system. The family are able to light their home, use a radio and TV and charge mobile phones. The children are able to do their homework in the evenings and are able to learn more about the world from TV and radio. “Before we were in the dark, but now we have light. It is easier to deal with snakes when they enter the house. Energy at the clinic means that giving birth at night is much easier, before you had to bring your own candles. And there is always vaccine available for the clinic. At the shop we can now buy meat and cold drinks. I hope to be able to buy a refrigerator to store food. We save money because electricity is cheaper than candles or paraffin. I spend $1 per week in the pre-payment meter.”
