Abstract

Hilando Culturas is a Practical Action project in Peru which upskills traditional weavers to access fairer prices at bigger markets. The group are learning to dye wool (sheep and alpaca) with natural dyes locally available and using traditional cultural weaving/knitting techniques and patterns. Objectives: Value traditional crafts Improve manufacturing techniques Marketing of their products Government partnerships They have developed a brand name (Canchi) and are taking the products to fashion outlets in Lima to try to build a market in these high quality products. Every Thursday they come to work together at the centre and learn new skills which they put into practise at home.
