Abstract
46 years old Parbati Giri is from Lekhnath-01, Kaski in Nepal. She is a farmer and also a member of Technical Knowledge Group formed by Deepshikha Community Library and Resource Center under Practical Answers Program. Parbati has 6 members in her family and they depend on agriculture for their livelihood. She was having a hard time cultivating paddy on her farm because of ‘Raate Kira’, a type of insect which turns the plants red and reduces rice production too. She went to a nearby agriculture service center to get insecticide but she neither had an idea about its use nor its side effects. She visited the agriculture service center many times and consulted other people too but her problem wasn’t solved. Then, one day she attended an interaction program organized by Practical Answer’s Services. From that interaction she got to know about the method of preparing homemade pesticide and using it on the field to remove pests. Parbati practiced whatever she learned from the interaction program. She used homemade pesticide in her paddy field and within a week the pests that had infected her paddy field reduced. Her farm regained its lost greenery and she can now see the improvement in rice productivity. “I am very much grateful to Practical Answers Services. This program has benefitted many farmers like me in Lekhnath Municipality. I will always attend such interactions in future and will share whatever I learn with my friends too” says Parbati with a smiling face.
