Abstract
Sustainable Energy for Rural Communities (SE4RC) Gwanda district, Zimbabwe; Nsanje and Chikwawa districts, Malawi February 2015 – January 2019 Funding: European Union, OFID and GEF Small Grants Programme Silindikie Moyo is a technician working on the SE4RC project and has been trained by Practical Action to manage the grid. “I used to make and lay bricks but I was interested in becoming an electrician so I started work on the phone lines. When I started working on the project with Practical Action I learned how to tube and wire rooms to electrify houses. I was given skills to wire the schools, clinics and shops. I am now able to provide for my family and send my children to school (girl born in 2005, girl born in 2011 and boy born in 2013). I am happy to be able to use my skills to provide people with access to electricity, especially to places like schools and clinics to help improve the education and health of the community. I am looking forward to extending my skills and going to technical college.”
