Abstract

Manos Magicas (Magic Hands) is a female group from Sicuani, Peru who make products using traditional weaving techniques.  Practical Action helped them to buy their workshop. Intricate products like their carnival rug take 4 weeks to weave each side. The group now sells their products at bigger markets with help from Practical Action, to gain better prices.  Jenny (pictured in black coat) received training from Practical Action and now spreads information to the younger generation about easier weaving techniques and gaining access to market.  Practical Action provided Manos Magicas with better equipment such as a new wooden loom.  After some training, the group now pre-plan patterns and make a record of peoples orders.  Their training is part of the Hilando Culturas Artisan Training Programme.
