Abstract

Md. Nur Hossain( 45), is from Ranipura Village, Belkuchi Upazila, Sirajganj. He is paralyzed  - the right of his body does not move.   His family consist of a wife, Morshida Khatun, two daughters, 2 and one son. The elder daughter is married, the second daughter is in class 11, and son is in class IV.   In 1998 he went to Malaysia by selling properties to build his luck but came back after five years with empty pockets and in 2004 he went to the same country again, but within a year he came home paralyzed. The whole family falls into an unfathomable dark. His wife kept the family together, she started work as part time weaver, selling clothes and had some support from other family. In 2014 she took a 4000 Tk loan from a Non-Government Organization (NGO) to set up a shop beside his house. But In a few days was unable to may it pay because of the poverty and illness of her husband.   In 2014 Practical Action's V2R+ project began, including the flood vulnerable community of Ranipura Village. Nur Hossain’s wife, Murshida Khatun was one of the project beneficiaries. In 2016, Murshida Khatun got 8000 Tk. with one-day training on business management from project. She revitalized the shop and filled it with dry food items and fast food items suitable for easy handling by a paralyzed person like bread, biscuits, candy, soap, detergent, shampoo, chanacur. Now, Nur Hossain earns 1200 to 1500 Tk per month and Murshida Khatun earning 1200 – 1500 Tk by selling cloths and tailoring. They are maintaining and monitoring daily income expenditure to analysis the progress for making decision.
