Abstract

This guide draws on practical learnings and first hand insights - both from last mile distribution companies (LMDs) and from VfW's work with small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) - to enable LMDs to test gender-inclusive strategies in their businesses. It focusses on five strategies, each with an accompanying case study from a GDC member: 1) mainstreaming women agents' best practices across teams; 2) providing operational support to help women agents overcome mobility and asset challenges; 3) promoting women agents' safety; 4) marketing to women customers on digital platforms; and 5) proactively increasing recruitment of women agents. This document is intended to help LMDs apply a gender lens to their operations, and to support them in improving their business and gender objectives in tandem. It includes practical insights and tips, lessons learned from GDC members, and templates to help get companies started on this journey.
