Abstract
The rural population in this area face many challenges which they are unable to resolve, even though they have an accumulated knowledge base of information and wide practical experience. This project will help them strengthen their ability to cope. Direct beneficiaries were estimated at 99,705 people: 37,605 farmers; 37,605 pastoralists and 6,750 IDP living in 30 villages within 5 localities. The cultivating farms in avenge ranging from 3 to 5 Feddans (1.2 to 2.3 hectares). Project outcomes 1. Increased organizational capacity of farmer and pastoralist CBOs to effectively represent their constituencies and lead the outreach and extension of proven social and technological practices among their own and neighbouring rural communities 2. Increase food security and production by facilitating small scale farmer’s access to appropriate extension services and inputs. 3. Facilitate small scale farmers’ and animal herders’ access to markets by increasing and improving their skills and diversifying the products they produce 4. Improve natural resource management and help reduce associated conflict by assisting local people implementing sustainable practices that prevent land degradation 5. Scale up successes by documenting and widely sharing of project lessons and experience
