Abstract
Milka is 28 years old, married and has 2 children aged 6 and 4 years old, with another on the way. She lives in Kitale, Kenya. Milka has benefited from the ‘People’s Plans into Practice’ project and her community now has access to clean and safe water from water vendors. From her home, you can see a water vendor. Milka explains what life was like before the project and how having access to water has changed her life. “I had to walk very far to collect water and sometimes there was no water... I would spend 2 hours every day collecting water. When you get there, there is a long queue. You have to wait. I would wake up at 4am to get the water.” “When I heard about the project I was happy... I now have more time for my business. I make and sell cereal products, my income has increased.” “It keeps you healthy if your business is doing well... I have time to prepare my children; they are never late for school.” “My business is better. I have time. The water is very close to my house. I’m making more money, I have doubled what I made before. I use the extra money on my family. We now eat better.”
