Abstract
Micro hydro power supply for Chorro Blanco in the province of San Pablo, Cajamarca, Peru Beneficiaries are more than 40 families in this community. A socio-economic survey of the area was undertaken to facilitate the design and implementation of the service management model for the community. Community members were actively involved in the construction work The electromechanical equipment for this project consists of: • Michel Banki type turbine, which provides 20kW of power • 20kW power generator, synchronous, single phase, 220V voltage and 60Hz frequency • Electronic load regulator, 20 kW of power, 220V voltage, 60Hz frequency • Secondary load comprised resistors cooled in a water tank, the installed systems of which add up to 20kW Benefits of micro hydro generation of electricity include: • It is renewable and ‘fuel-free’ • It has a long system lifetime, typically 25 years or more • Electricity is available when people need it most—more hydro energy is available in winter when heating demands are high • Maintenance and running costs are low • Installation has minimal environmental impact
