Abstract
Agriculture Group, Rajbari 25 in Producers’ Group (8 women) Notun Char, Baliakandi, Rajbari Meeting: This was a regular fortnightly meeting of the group. Mainly women attended but with male president. The topic was on onion seed and production. Field facilitators and technical specialists will attend depending on the topic to be discussed. Each participant had an input card with a record of inputs received. Several women were attending on behalf of their husbands who were working elsewhere, so they could collect the inputs. Several of the group members said that the technical information was very important to them. For example, they said that they were experienced in growing vegetables but had not had training before. In the past they obtained knowledge from reading fertiliser/seed packets or watching others. They had received one day’s training plus follow-ups in the fortnightly meetings and found these very useful. They said that other people in the village would probably be interested to join even if they did not receive inputs, so that they could access the technical information. Several said that they would reinvest money from selling their produce back into vegetables: they were clear that they needed to do this as the project was not long term. Their other priority was to invest in their children’s education. Close to the meeting place there was a small vegetable nursery established by the producers group. Behind was a field of cauliflower planted using the seeds given by the project and weeded by 2 men employed by one of the producer group members.
