Abstract
The objective of this project is to reduce poverty and hunger and under nutrition amongst poor communities in Collana, Provincia de Aroma, La Paz. Funder: AECID y FUNDESO Beneficiaries are 3.900 inhabitants of Collana Collana: Nourishment with knowledge In August 2010, Aurora Mamani trained as an agricultural promoter in her area. She lives in Collana in the province of Aroma in the region of La Paz. During the week she missed her husband and children. She is part of Practical Action’s project to reduce the vulnerability of communities in the municipality of Collana. This area has one of the highest rates of malnutrition in Bolivia. Aurora is very happy and is hopeful for the future. She shows us her well and her drinking troughs, which were built as part of the project and says; “Are they great! There is clean water even for my cows!” A little over a month ago, this enterprising woman, finished building a chicken coop to raise the chickens that the project supplied. Providing animals that reproduce quickly and provide eggs will help improve the daily diet for families and increase their food security. But Aurora does not only have better knowledge of technology to help her to improve that can help improve the lives of her and her family. She told us that although the conditions of food supply have improved, they still have no surpluses to sell. “This year is dry, but even so we can vary our diet with quinoa, potatoes and other vegetables that we are harvesting for the first time in my plot”, she said.
