Abstract

This project seeks to enhance the food and livelihoods security of smallholder rural farming households through the following objectives: • Enhancing the capacity of rural smallholder farming households to participate in development programmes. • Improving access by smallholder farming household to appropriate agricultural inputs, crop production techniques • Increasing smallholder farming households capacity to access food and earn income from small livestock • Enhancing smallholder farmers’ income earning capacity The action seeks to strengthen food and nutrition security of 7400 chronically poor households in Matabeleland South through improved crop & livestock production and marketing systems. Key Activities: • Community based approaches : Training for transformation and leadership training, participatory extension approaches at district and ward level, livelihood centred disaster risk reduction. • Improved crop production techniques • Conservation agriculture. • Exposure visits to agricultural research stations to learn improved production techniques. • Community based animal health training (Paravets training). • Facilitating development of markets for crops and livestock for target households through the PMSD approach, value chain analysis and business management trainings.
