Cajamarca, Junn, and Puno in Peru and La Paz in Bolivia March 2015 - February 2019
The project will work with small scale coffee producers to improve their incomes and to introduce more environmentally sustainable agricultural techniques.
Project activities include:
Addressing overreliance on coffee by providing training and knowledge networks for alternative products such as cocoa and honey
Training for environmentally sustainable agroforestry techniques like layer farming and shading
Creating 30 new agro-forestry cooperatives, to access new markets and allow the sharing of knowledge and techniques. This will enable producers to get better prices when buying equipment and attract larger buyers for their coffee
Certification scheme for agroforestry and coffee production in Peru and Bolivia to recognise and value traditional skills and sustainable harvesting, in partnership with educational institutions and government
Business training for cooperatives in branding, promotion, marketing and business planning
Developing strategies for producing the best quality and most profitable coffee, as well as introducing new agro-forestry products for local and national markets
