Abstract
My name is Noé Silva Morales. I live in the Inkari community of Atalaya, in the Ucayali jungle. I am currently involved in selling natural medicinal and aphrodisiac products, using inputs obtained from the native communities in the area. We are currently transforming and selling nectars, marinated products, cat’s claw bark and extracts, dragon’s blood (croton lechlen), copaiba, huasai, honey and other products, all of which are natural. We sell them in the city of Atalaya itself, where it is common among poor people to use products of this type. I found out about Practical Action in 2010, when surfing the Internet looking for information about cat’s claw. We recommend cat´s claw to strengthen the immunological system. I came across an e-mail address, so I wrote to request information and I am grateful to have received a reply. I never logged in again because my work took up all my time and I stopped receiving the information I was sent because I changed my e-mail address. When I contacted Practical Action I was already processing cat’s claw, but in a different way. Also, I didn’t know how to make nectar based on cat’s claw but thanks to you, I learned how to do it. This information proved very useful, it was very important for me, well worthwhile. I shared the information with other producers; there are four of us involved in the natural medicinal products business in Atalaya. Previously, my income from the sale of these products was too low to earn a good profit; now it has improved by over 50% and I want to continue improving. With the profits we have improved the presentation of our products. Now I am interested in improving my business and perhaps having a native health centre on medicinal plants. I would like to receive information on how to obtain loans and on marketing issues.
