Participatory reconstruction of houses in the Ica Region, Province of Chincha, District of El Carmen, Peru and strengthening risk management capacities in the families affected by the earthquake of August 17, 2007 Project dates: December 2008 – February 2010 Beneficiaries 38 rural families selected among the poorest and most vulnerable families of Chincha who will benefit from having a safe and decent house. Outcomes: 1. The technical and management capacities of beneficiaries, leaders and authorities of El Carmen are strengthened to implement Reconstruction and Risk Management Plans. 2. Affected families have access to earthquake proofed houses through a participatory process in which community members themselves build their homes with improved quincha. 3. The families affected by the earthquake increase their capacity to influence the manage-ment of public utilities and improve the conditions of their homes.
