Alternative Title

Community Led Approaches Complimenting Sustainable Service Delivery for WASH (5000422)

Abstract

here was a gathering of the community at the borehole for our visit the opportunity was taken to relay a podcast about water and hygiene. Two of the podcasting team were present, Sipho and Lot Dupe. Generally they gather groups of 50/60 for these sessions about once a month in each area. These can be community groups, schools or churches. Following the podcast people are invited to ask questions, which if they are technical are recorded and the technical enquiry service is asked to respond. Mr Dupe was in his second year of doing this work. He had received 6 weeks of training. He said the community chooses the subject they wish to learn about and he takes questions afterwards. His main problem is that the area he has to cover (30 x 30 km) is too big and would be easier if he had a bicycle. The podcasts cover a wide variety of topics such as care of livestock, pests and diseases, hygiene and vegetable growing.
