Abstract

Working with communities in North-West Nepal, helping to develop opportunities and skills for socially marginalised families. Target groups include dalits, the lowest caste in the Hindu system, ethnic nationalities and households headed by women. A total of 8,000 such households stand to benefit directly from this project, which has a further year to run. One of the main activities is support for leasehold farming. The project is working closely with village and district development committees and government agencies to ensure effective coordination and to spread awareness of the project’s benefits in the region. There are six districts covered by this project, Doti, Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Banke, Surket, and Kailali, areas which have been affected by recent conflict. EXPECTED OUTCOMES ˜ Increased secure access to land for 500 HHs ˜ Increased income of target communities by 20 per cent ˜ Improved access to wider range of technical skills in agriculture production, seeds, saplings and agro-tools for 8,000 target HHs ˜ Created 1,200 off-farm jobs and another 6,000 members of target communities are self employed
