Abstract

The village of Altermarani is on the River Beni in Bolivia and is only accessible by boat. The nearest town is Rurrenebaque. Practical Action installed a solar panel and water tap to pump water from the river out of the ground and clean it before being stored in a pre-existing community water tower. Now the community does not have to climb down the steep banks and endanger themselves just to get water to cook, clean and wash with. Freddy (pictured in green shirt) is the community mechanic and was trained by Practical Action. He is in charge of the water pump and fixes it if there are any problems. Roxana (pictured in pink top and hat) is the Community Women's Leader. She is standing outside the Community Hub.  Daniella is a young school girl from the community. Her school has benefitted from two new toilets, a shower and wash handbasins provided by Practical Action.
