Abstract
A shallow well on the edge of the settlement Namoruputh (in addition to the piped supply) has been improved by cleaning it out, lining it with concrete rings to prevent the sides from collapsing, and sealing the well off to prevent pollution from entering from the outside. Water is extracted from a handpump which is placed on a raised platform to make sure it stays above the maximum level of the occasional flash floods that affect its location during the short rainy season.
