Abstract

In Nepal the Renewable Energy Village Programme covered 11 villages of Bhumlichok VDC in the Gorkha district. Linking renewable energy with the livelihoods of poor communities is one of the best parts of the project. In Aaidanda village, 29 household members are gathered together in their monthly saving and credit meeting. They used to save NRs. 100 monthly per household. They can also take a loan from the community cooperative for renewable energy technology and livelihood activities. To date they have saved NRs. 11,14,336 and invested NRs 10, 88,200 in 273 members in 11 communities. Photo contest entrant 2009.
