Abstract
Pashupati is 21 years old and lives in a village on the outskirts of Dhading Desi city in the Dhading District of Nepal. She has recently got married and lives with her husband his family in a small house. Pashupati is responsible for cooking all of the meals and does so with a traditional stove. “I use a traditional stove, I have no other means of cooking. “It’s difficult for me to cook, it’s smoky and is really hard in the summer because it’s so hot near the fire. “I have to walk 3 hours to collect wood and because now the trees are protected it’s even harder to get wood. “It costs 500 NR for a stack of wood and it lasts for 3 days. “During the monsoon we hardly fetch wood because it’s harder, we have to stock up. “When I lived with my Mother, she had problems with her eyes, they would water and would go red. She coughed sometimes too. “It takes me 2 hours to cook each meal. “The smoke is the worst thing. “I do worry about my eyes but I need to cook for my family, what else can I do?” With a smoke hood and improved stove, Pashupati wouldn’t have to spend so long cooking meals, with the extra time, she would be able to do other things. When asked what she would do with the extra time, she explained “I would spend this extra time working on the farm. We rely on farming and could make more money and I could help my husband.” “I wouldn’t have to be next to the fire for as long. “When I have children, I would like to be able to send them to school.”
